INCREASING VALUE

My work is an experiment in the concepts of value and adornment. My process in the Increasing Value series takes currency of defined value, distills it to graphic elements, and then reimagines it into an object much more precious.

Saved from their inevitable doom with the shredder these discontinued bills were coveted. Collected from banks, friends, clients it became a community project. If someone found one, I was the first person they would call. These bills were saved from becoming even, straight lines of paper completely devoid of any resemblance to what was. Fragments are chosen for specific filigree and removed from their original context. Nothing remains in its entirety. I create something new within the up-cycle process and a currency time capsule is born. An homage to the past. Something that was ready to be discarded has now been chosen and given a new life and purpose.
